IN PROGRESS
Preliminary carving on a Californian ‘Dark Blue’ Jade cabochon (38 mm x 50 mm)
A wonderful gift from Matt to whom I give thanks.
For over 18 months or more this face has been looking back at me every time the cab was picked up.
Close to a year later a start was made to reveal the features and dropped back on the bench shortly after with the intent to soon continue.
Yeah….. close to another year later…… Picked up again only 3 / 4 weeks back and diamond tooled to the present stage.
Perhaps a small diamond set in the hole of the ‘3rd Eye” ?

Blue Jade Warrior in progress
Note the diamond tooling marks are still quite strong. Time to refine and prepare for finishing.Blue Jade Warrior Front and Back
The jade is very tight knit and dense, translucency not great. However because of being so well knit the stone will handle being carved quite thin and able to allow more light through to show color and translucence. A start has been made on the back with still much to remove. After which a silver/gold mounting is to be designed for possible Personal Adornment.

The back hollow ground more to show translucency and color when strongly back lit.

All forming and hand working completed and the 18ct, white gold, mounting of a diamond in the Third Eye will also be designed into the suspension system to complete the Warrior. Fine, especially hard and tight grained jade showing crisp detail. The soft, matt finish suggesting a pliable soft texture belying the stone.
