| I
have been diving for jade as a passion and hobby for over 17 years. I do my collecting
in Big Sur, in a area called Jade Cove. There is a vein of nephrite jade that
comes out of the Santa Lucia Mountains and plunges straight into the Pacific Ocean,
mostly concentrated from Sand Dollar Beach to Willow Creek. I
find most of my jade by SCUBA diving, although pieces can also be found by walking
the numerous beaches. The best time to find jade is after large storms or swells.
The pristine clear waters boast abundant sea life. Unfortunately, this strecth
of ocean is almost always rough, with sleeper waves that can catch the unsuspecting
diver or beachcomber off guard. There is also the ever present White Shark lurking
around, and lots of kelp to get tangeled in. I
started this site for fellow jade and other gemstone hounds to showcase their
stones and the interesting things they make out of them. I welcome anyone to post
pictures of their beautiful gems or stone creations. |
